Resveratrol, a component in most of our plant species, has been found to be quite beneficial to our health. Resveratrol gained popularity because of the initial researches and studies conducted for red wine drinkers. However, unlike other beneficial compound found in plants, resveratrol is not found in large volumes in just any plant.
What foods have the most resveratrol in them?
If you are looking for the food with the highest concentration of resveratrol, check out the purple and red varieties of grapes. Other dark berries, such as cranberries and mulberries, also contain high levels. One that you might not expect to have high levels are peanuts. It makes sense, however, because peanuts need the protection that resveratrol offers.
Even in the same type of grapes, the resveratrol content can change based on where the grapes are grown. If a grape is grown in cool weather, then it is likely to have higher content than if it is grown in warm weather. Organic fruits are also known to have higher levels, because they do not have as much protection from pesticides. Grapes grown in North Carolina are usually said to have the highest levels of resveratrol.
Do not make the mistake of destroying the resveratrol content by heating up the fruit. Applying heat can drastically reduce the amount found in the raw food. Also, to get the most bang for your buck do not remove the skin of the food, as this is where most of the resveratrol is found. The best way to eat your grapes, berries, or peanuts is to eat them with their skins on and raw.
Since there are few quality sources of resveratrol, it may be a good idea to get additional amounts with a supplement. Many of the supplements on the market today are derived from Japanese Knotweed. However, you should still try to get as much as possible from an all natural source. This means you should also have one glass of red win per day.
Red wine contains more potent resveratrol than grape juice, but if you are not able to drink a glass of wine everyday it is a decent option. Don’t make the mistake of buying a grape juice that contains tons of sugar, because this will do more harm than good. Try to get a fresh juice that is made from organic grapes.
If you make sure to keep your kitchen stocked with grapes, strawberries, and blueberries then you will be able to get all the benefits they provide, as well as a decent dose of resveratrol. Using these as snacks will provide you with a healthy, tasty, snack that doesn’t kill your body like fake sugar and high fructose corn syrup will. This will help prevent obesity and keep you feeling and looking young much longer.
