Sex Before Marriage – Statistics That Will Stun You

Sex before marriage is a hot and controversial topic with a lot of statistics to prove how vital it is for us to understand the topic properly. Most people are under the impression that it is the religious and orthodox groups that oppose sex before marriage, while everyone else endorses it. But you will be surprised to know that the highest office of the United States government in fact encourages abstinence from sex before marriage. There is an initiative called the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. All the statistics mentioned in this article have been directly sourced from this program’s website. The link to the website can be found at the bottom of this article.

The United States government encourages unmarried individuals to abstain from sexual activity as it is the best and the only certain way to protect themselves from exposure to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Just think about this for a moment. This is not a religious organization or an orthodox group asking you to abstain from sex before marriage citing religious beliefs. This is the United States government coming to this conclusion after spending billions of dollars in research and having all the relevant statistics at hand. Even if people might ignore advice from faith-based organizations, they sure would not want to ignore the recommendations of a scientific study.

Now what did this scientific study find out? It found that an alarming 50% of all new infections occur in young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years. If you think about it, that is exactly the age group that is involved in sex before marriage. Almost half of those young people end up getting infected with AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases. Now this is hardly the age to be dealing with such complications in life. Just imagine how a person in that age group can effectively deal with having AIDS or a sexually transmitted disease. They will not be physically, mentally, emotionally or financially prepared to handle the situation. When they need to be focusing their attention on their studies or enhancing their careers, they would instead have to be in and out of hospitals, fighting for their lives against a deadly disease. So the government advices that “delaying the first sexual encounter can have a significant impact on the health and well-being of adolescents”. This is not your dad, mom, teacher or pastor talking; this is the finding of a scientific study carried out by the United States Government.

The study also found that abstinence from sexual activity is the best and the only certain way to protect oneself from exposure to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. There is an extremely dangerous idea called “safe sex” that is prevalent among sexually active individuals. But in reality, there is no such thing as “safe sex”. Transmission of diseases has happened several times even when condoms were used. The pill and the diaphragm have also failed to stop many pregnancies. As the study has found out, the only absolute way of avoiding pregnancies or protecting oneself from HIV and other deadly diseases contracted through sexual activity is completely avoiding sex before marriage. You can verify the statistics mentioned in this article at The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief website.
