Natural Remedies For Bacterial Vaginal Infection

There are a number of natural remedies for bacterial vaginal infection which you can put into practice to give you a degree of relief. This very common condition is caused by an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria and causes very embarrassing symptoms including irritation and itching around the vaginal area together with a foul fishy odor which can be so strong that it is noticeable by those around.

Usually, the various strains of bacteria live harmoniously within the vagina, with the healthy Lactobacillus bacteria creating a mild acidic environment. When something happens to sway the pH level and it becomes alkaline, this supports the formation of harmful bacteria which is responsible for the symptoms.

It is easy enough to treat the symptoms by using natural remedies for bacterial vaginal infection and three very popular, yet economical home substances which can be used are tea tree oil, probiotic yogurt and cider vinegar.

Tea Tree Oil

This powerful oil can be used very effectively to treat bacterial vaginal infection. It has strong antibacterial properties and when used correctly, it can be very gentle. It must not be used “neat” on the vagina but can be bought in a diluted, purpose-made pessary form. Alternatively, add around 12 drops to a “sitz” bath

Probiotic Yogurt

Live natural yogurt is rich in beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria of the same type found in a healthy vagina. Try soaking a tampon in the yogurt and leave in place for an hour or so or overnight. Bacteria multiplies quickly in the right environment and by introducing it into the vagina, it will reproduce and begin to exert its protective effect

Cider Vinegar

The pH level of cider vinegar is mildly acidic and similar to that of a healthy vagina. Bathing the vaginal area with a weakly diluted solution of 2 tablespoons to 8oz water can help, as can adding 2-3 cups to your bath.
