Laptop Vs Tablet: Which Is Better for Your Business?

The growing popularity of ultra-portable tablets has sparked debate over whether they have the potential to replace their predecessors-laptops. True, tablets have the edge of being very portable and having interfaces that totally redefine the term “user-friendly”. In fact, these two qualities give tablets the ability to be used by almost anyone-and in almost any way imaginable. Granted, they are ideal for someone on the move. But can tablets really replace laptops? Especially considering the immense power and multitasking abilities of a laptop.

In this article we will go through some of the pros and cons of each device to help you decide which one best suits you and your business-a laptop or tablet.

Tablets

Tablets are quite small in size and light in weight, making them extremely portable. Their easy and simple interfaces make them very user-friendly by giving users complete control over features, applications and, above all, the screen. Tablets have a touch-screen interface rather than the traditional combination of a keyboard and a trackpad found in laptops. Most tablet users feel that a touch-screen interface not only gives them greater control over their devices, but also provides a more tactile experience than a trackpad.

A good tablet costs considerably more than a good laptop. Though most tablet models offered by popular brands like Apple, HP, Samsung, etc., have a very sturdy and durable body, a tablet’s touch-screen display, being exposed, is highly susceptible to damage, especially if the tablet is carried or transported without a tablet case. And getting a case means additional expense. That’s because a case is not included with the product. But then whether one chooses a laptop or tablet, a case would have to be purchased separately. Tablets generally have lower screen resolution, computing power and storage capacity than a laptop with a similar price tag. A tablet definitely falls short when one looks at equivalent performance and features.

Laptops

Laptops have larger screens and much higher screen resolution than tablets, which makes work easier and enjoyable. Unlike tablets, they come with full, physical keyboards that generally ensure faster typing and a higher level of accuracy. Generally, laptops are sturdier and much more durable than tablets. Moreover, they are also free from issues like the danger of the touch-screen display getting scratched or damaged in some other way.

Laptops may have larger screens, higher computing and storage capacity, and more features than tablets, but there is no denying that even the smallest and lightest laptops weigh no less than 3 pounds, while some of the ultra-portable tablets weight a little over 1 pound.

So which one of the two devices wins the Laptop vs. Tablet competition? The laptop or tablet?

Well, there’s a tie. Your choice should depend on the specific needs of your business. If you or your associates have to travel a lot for business, you would want to go for the lighter and easily portable tablet. But if portability is not a major consideration for you, you would want to choose the laptop as it offers better performance and features at the same price.
