There are many so-called, natural remedies which supposedly help control or lower high blood pressure. A lot of these home remedies come and go because in reality, they don’t work. In fact, no one really knows the genesis of some of these remedies. However, there are a few foods that have been known to help with blood pressure control and in this article we will discuss these foods.
First, I must say the ultimate remedy to high blood pressure problems is to follow a plan approved by the American Medical Association. This plan would include getting exercise eating a low-fat diet, maintaining a healthy weight and avoiding table salt. Ultimately, the plan would include adhering to the advice of your family doctor.
Still, if you are trying to augment a plan to fight hypertension or if you are in a mode of guarding against hypertension, there is a short list of foods that many people have used successfully in controlling their blood pressure. The short list is:
· apple cider vinegar
· garlic
· watermelon
· sea salt
· calcium supplements
· flax seed
Apple cider vinegar or has been used for many years and many health benefits have been derived from its use. One of these health benefits is, at least some think, it lowers high blood pressure. The best way to use it is two teaspoons are mixed with 8 to 10 ounces of water and lemon or lime squeezes are used to give it a little better taste. It can be drank slowly or chugged.
The next remedy is, one clove of garlic a day. The best way to use garlic is minced or chopped up into very little pieces and sprinkled over your food. The garlic should be fresh because it loses some of its active ingredients when it is cooked. Also, garlic supplements are said not to work as well.
Most fruits are a good replacement for processed foods when one is getting high BP readings. If sugar diabetes is a problem, you would have to find out from your doctor if you’re allowed to eat fruits at all. If you are, the best fruit to eat for BP control is watermelon. Aside from BP control, watermelon has many other health benefits.
Table salt is processed salt and some of its ingredients include chloride and iodine. It is these things that cause us harm, not the salt itself. However sea salt, which is a natural salt, is very healthy. Using sea salt instead of table salt can go a long ways toward lowering elevated BP.
Taking calcium supplements can be helpful when we are trying to lower our blood pressure. However, they could interfere with any blood pressure medication we are taking. So before taking calcium supplements please check with your doctor.
Flax seed has been found to be good for just about everything and lowering blood pressure is just one of the things some people use it for. It is best used if it is bought in whole seeds and ground in a coffee grinder. Then, it can be mixed with water or juice. Two tablespoons of flax seed a day makes for a healthy diet supplement.
Once again, there is no substitute for the advice of your doctor. However, all the foods mentioned here are very healthy and you can’t go wrong replacing fast foods and the fatty foods in your diet with the foods mentioned in this article.
