Protein shakes for weight loss are such an easy way to help you stay on track and avoid snacking on bad food. They are a convenient and healthy option that should be a part of your overall eating plan. Whilst you still should get the majority of your calorie intake from whole foods, shakes or blender drinks can be a nice change of pace. There are plenty of options available in today’s marketplace as well, so you should be able to find an optin that suits your taste buds as well as your weight loss goals.
High quality shakes will help you to feel fuller for longer as well as deliver a large number of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. As with most foods, if you can make your own shakes with good, fresh ingredients then the end product will be even better.
I really don’t like a lot of the prepackaged, commercially available ‘weight loss shakes’. The powdered sachet varieties typically contain very little quality protein and instead are filled with cheap carbohydrate powders and flavoring. And whilst these powdered shakes are made using cheap ingredients they aren’t actually cheap themselves and represent poor value for money as well.
If you are going to buy a prepackaged shake you want to make sure you read the label closely. Look for a product that has whey protein listed first as an ingredient. It can either be whey protein isolate (WPI) or concentrate (WPC) but you want to avoid most soy proteins and ‘proprietary’ blends.
Also be on the lookout for those cheap carbohydrate fillers under a few different names. The label may have maltodextrin, dextrose, cane sugar, corn syrup or glucose listed high on the ingredient list. If it does steer clear because that means that it is going to contain more low quality and high glycaemic carbohydrates than you want for weight loss.
Of course be on the lookout for ingredients that you can’t name or spell. Chances are these ingredients aren’t all that natural and won’t be terribly friendly to your body. Followed closely you want to keep an eye on the numbers on the label. These will typically be for the artificial flavors and sweeteners that are in the product. The less, ideally none the better.
So if you are going to buy a prepackaged protein shake for fat loss, then please use these guideline. Otherwise the best option is to make a homemade fat loss shake so that you can control exactly what goes into it.
