Herbal Vs Homeopathic Skin Treatment – Who Comes Out on Top?

Do you want herbal skin care or a homeopathic remedy? Recently, I did an internet search for herbal treatment for the skin, just to see what advertisers would pop up. I was amused by several of them, but then I realized that many people probably don’t know the difference between the terms that are used to refer to natural remedies. That’s when I decided to write this article.

I am a big fan of natural botanical and herbal skin care remedies. I am a strong believer in naturopathic treatments. Homeopathy, on the other hand, is a different story.

I was really surprised by all of the homeopathic products that popped up when I did a search for herbal treatment for the skin. I suppose that I shouldn’t be. A homeopathic remedy for the common cold was recently pulled from the US market, but they continue to be popular in other countries. The internet is about the only option that homeopaths have left for peddling their wares.

You see, homeopathic remedies are not herbs. In fact, scientific evaluation has proven again and again that these products contain no active ingredients…nothing at all.

Homeopaths claim that when a substance is repeatedly diluted with water, the water will retain the “essence” of the substance. Scientists have shown that these heavily diluted remedies do not contain any of the original substance, at all.

So, herbal treatment for the skin can be highly beneficial. Homeopathic treatments are not going to change your appearance or your skin’s health. It’s easy to get all of the terms confused, but a naturopathic approach means that you make efforts to treat the “whole” body. Basically, you would focus on eating right, living a healthy life style and using natural or herbal skin care treatments for conditions like psoriasis, acne, eczema or just to protect your appearance and delay the signs of aging.

There are some ingredients that are scientifically proven to benefit all sorts of skin types and even help reduce wrinkling and sagging. One really good herbal treatment for the skin is avocado oil.

It is one of the few vegetable oils that is not derived from the seeds, but pressed from the pulp surrounding the pit. It has been used since ancient times to moisturize and promote healing. Scientific evaluation has shown that it contains essential fatty acids, similar to the skin’s natural oils, and is rich in vitamins A, D and E. All three are highly important to the skin’s health.

An herbal skin care cream containing avocado oil relieves dry and sun-damaged skin, reduces age spots and is beneficial for conditions like psoriasis and eczema. Recently, a study showed that the oil increases the amount of collagen in the skin’s cells, something that usually decreases with age.

So, this herbal treatment for the skin is one of the anti-aging treatments that I would recommend. Just remember that you’re looking for herbal skin care, not homeopathic remedies.
